Dave Butera started in construction at 15 with a summer job, where he developed a passion for building. He learned the trade as a carpenter, rose to foreman, and studied design, drafting, and engineering while working in the field. Early in his career, his unique expertise brought him to San Diego, where he supervised a $30 million condominium development.

In 1984, after returning to Rhode Island, Dave and his father, a retiring industrial arts teacher, founded Butera Building. In the years that followed, the business became award winning and renowned throughout southern New England for its craftsmanship. Today it remains the same family owned and operated business, alongside our highly skilled and dedicated team.

Our work has ranged from historic restorations, new builds, and commercial projects to landmark waterfront estates. We now focus on fine custom homes throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, supported by our own 12,000 square foot cabinet shop that builds millwork, cabinetry, and furniture to the same standard as our homes.
